Top 10 Athletes To Watch At The HF ABC Girls Invite

Writer: Carson VittorioCarson Vittorio

The Homewood-Flossmoor Girls ABC Invite is the premier girls invite of the indoor season every year. With the best squads in the state converging to this beautiful facility, expect some amazing marks to happen here. The meet is diverse, but with a heavy emphasis on the sprints.

1. Angelena Bullocks (Sr., Chicago [Whitney Young])

There is no doubt that Bullocks has been the top sprinter in the state this year with phenomenal performances of 7.41 in the 60m and 24.55 in the 200m. This will be the Lady Dolphins first big invite of the High School season, expect her to be in 3-4 events this weekend.

2. Mariyah Robinson (Jr., Homewood-Flossmoor)

This weekend will hopefully showcase the debut of Robinson in the Red & White. The transfer from Simeon is one of the highest caliber transfer in recent memory for the state. She ran 11.7 and 23.7 last year in the 100m and 200m. With an upgrade in facilities and joining the legendary HF program, the expectation is that she will be ready to go in whatever events she runs this weekend.

3. Dominique Johnson (Sr., Huntley)

Johnson is the top overall jumper in the state and that's obvious from her 18-11 LJ and 41-3 TJ that she has achieved this year. Johnson makes any pit that she competes at must watch and will look to be the top dog at HF. It will not be easy though as the top 3 horizontal jumpers being here.

4. Jordan Hamb (Jr., Chicago [South Shore])

Hamb is one of the best hurdlers in the state and will look to showcase that here. She ran 8.74 at Misfits in January and hasn't gotten back under 9.00 since. She is a USATF Junior Olympics Runner-Up from last year in the 100H, expect her to be the favorite to bring home the hurdles title. She is also a great jumper with PRs of 19-4 in the LJ and 41-5 in the TJ. She will be competing with Johnson for the win in the jumps if she contests them.

5. Jaloni Wiley (Jr., Homewood-Flossmoor)

Wiley is the defending state champion from last year in the shot put. She has already looked exceptional indoors with a PR of 42-8 in the Shot. She will look to continue her reign of dominance here. Can she maintain her win streak?

6. Layla Bonilla (Sr., Chicago [Whitney Young])

Bonilla has been on a roll this indoor season with some big time wins early. She has already jumped 5-5 in the HJ, 17-11 in the LJ, and 39-5 in the TJ. She beat Johnson and Hamb in the TJ at the CYUP Misfits already this season. She looks ready to continue to rack up some more wins here.

7. London Jarrett (So., Homewood-Flossmoor)

Jarrett has made exceptional strides into one of the states top athletes this season as she has done well in the sprints, hurdles, and jumps. She has ran 7.86 in the 60m, 9.27 in the 60H, jumped 5-6 in the HJ, and jumped 17-4 in the LJ. Whatever Jarrett competes in this week, expect high quality performances.

8. Kee'Lani Whitlock (Sr., Chicago [Kenwood])

Whitlock is another one of the top sprinters in the state and that is evident from her 11.80 and 24.40 PRs in the 100m and 200m. The all-american has already started her season strong with times of 7.73 in the 60m and 25.14 in the 200m. She is also a 39 foot TJer. Expect her name to be seen a lot this weekend.

9. Maya Ledesma (Sr., Minooka)

Ledesma had a terrific cross country season this past fall as she took 4th at the IHSA 3A State Meet in 16:39. She followed that up a week later with a 34th place finish at NXR Midwest. She now aims her sights to the track where she was an all-state 3200 runner last year. Whatever distance she runs her, she will be someone to watch for.

10. Emma Berres (Sr., Naperville North)

Berres had a great cross country season, but is more known for being a track runner. She already has ran 5:05 in the 1600m this season which is very impressive for this point of the year. She has PRs of 2:12 in the 800m and 4:55 in the 1600m, so she is a proven legit runner in the state.
