1A

Kankakee (McNamara)

Writer: Brodie Peterson

The boys race shows off some decent talent with Holden Gerdes of Fairbury Prairie Ridge, ranked 12th in 1A, battling it out with 1A #15 Joe Faris of Dwight. Following close behind them will be Evan Benoit of Herscher. All three of these guys have been having killer seasons, so this could be anyone’s game here. On the team side Herscher, the 8th-ranked team in 1A, is the clear favorite. In a regional, a simulated 50 point gap is hard to close, but never impossible. An underdog team could come up and win.

The girls race will be a great duel for the individual title. The 7th-ranked 1A runner, also being an undefeated freshman that has shocked the state, Haven Barwegen of Kankakee Bishop McNamara will face off against mid-distance veteran Klarke Goranson of Manteno, who is also undefeated. Goranson has had a rough injury patch but she’s back for the postseason and slid into that #6 1A spot. Besides Goranson, the rest of the top 5 in this field are all freshmen. This will be a good picture for future talent coming to the state. On the team side, Manteno, ranked 17th, is the favorite for the chip, while Herscher and Kankakee Bishop McNamara are potential threats as well.

Skokie (Ida Crown)

Writer: Brodie Peterson

This race will feature several Chicago schools duking it out for a spot at Sectionals. There will be absolute domination by Chicago Wolcott. Xavier Radi, Habtamu Olson, and Jack DeSalvo could run a nasty 1-2-3 combo, with the top 2 battling it out for a Regional Gold Medal. Chicago F.W. Parker could compete if there are some really crazy breakouts in this race, but a 2nd place trophy is never a bad thing at a Regional race.

The Girls Race is going to be closer than the boys race, with three teams being potential Regional Chip winners. Leilani Pena of Chicago Rickover Naval Academy is the favorite going into this race with her sub-20 time. Her teammate Alyssa Buffalo and Addison Williams of Chicago F.W. Parker will battle right behind her. On the team side, Winnetka North Shore, Des Plaines Willows Academy, and Chicago F.W. Parker could all take the championship. However, since only 6 teams have enough runners to score, every team who can will advance to Sectionals if their runners at the very least finish.

Westmont

Writer: Brodie Peterson

Now, this Regional on the guys’ side is very interesting. With Grady Smith of Johnsburg not racing recently likely due to injury, this individual title could go to anyone. Gavin McInnis of Richmond Burtoncould sweep the competition away, being the only other guy in the field with a sub-16 time. Battle for All-Region medals will come down to Micah Klos of Johnsburg and Luke Erickson of Lisle. On the team side, River Valley Christian will most likely take the win with Immanuel Nunez leading their pack. Johnsburg is an interesting team, with Grady Smith as a possibility, could make or break their chances of advancing to Sectionals.

On the Girls side, the team race is going to be the most competitive of the weekend. There is a simulated tie between No. 19 Genova-Kingston and No. 10 Lisle. Lisle has the slight edge over them, but if they have a great day they could dominate the field with all of their potential. On the individual side, Khloe Lundy of Richmond Burton will go head to head with Aelyn Anderson of Westmont. Either one of these runners could take the win, as it’ll come down to who has the better day. Trailing will be Hayden Poole of Elgin St. Edward, who is a contestant for the win, but at least a Top 5 performance. She’s pretty known for upsets as well.

Eureka

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys race will be headlined by Adam Perry of Eureka, the fifth-ranked runner in the state and the favorite after winning the HOI Conference championship. Perry will lead a strong Eureka squad that enters as the No. 1-ranked team in Class 1A, with third-ranked Elmwood looking to challenge for the team title. Elmwood will rely on Cole Cahill, the state's 17th-ranked runner, and Danny Sharp, ranked 23rd, both of whom could contend for second individually. Weston Hodel of El Paso-Gridley, the 25th-ranked runner in the state and runner-up at the HOI Conference Meet, is another contender for the individual runner-up spot. El Paso-Gridley could also factor into the team race, particularly if Alex Lartz returns to the lineup after missing the last few weeks.

The girls race will feature a competitive battle for the individual title, with Ava Otto and Sierra Herrmann of Eureka leading the way after finishing first and second at the HOI Conference Meet. Otto, ranked 13th in Class 1A, and Herrmann, ranked 17th, will both have a chance to win the race, but they will face challenges from Mya Hill of Elmwood, the state's 25th-ranked runner, and Audrey Dickinson of Illini Bluffs. Mira Kistner of Stanford Olympia and Haven Miller of El Paso-Gridley will also look to finish in the top five. The team race should be competitive as well, with No. 2 Eureka, No. 5 Elmwood, and No. 6 El Paso-Gridley all entering with hopes of advancing.

Macomb

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys race will be led by Karter Chenoweth of Astoria, who enters as the 11th-ranked runner in Class 1A and the favorite after finishing fourth at the Patriot Invite. Macomb will look to challenge for the individual runner-up spot with Alex Simmons and Landon Richards, who finished 16th and 23rd, respectively, at the Patriot Invite. In the team race, Macomb is expected to lead the way, with Beardstown positioned to finish second. Macomb will look to use its team depth to secure the victory, while Beardstown aims to hold off the rest of the field.

The girls race will be headlined by Kasyn Jibben of Havana, the second-ranked runner in Class 1A and the favorite after winning the Patriot Invite. Hayven Rundle of Monmouth United, ranked 14th in the state, will look to challenge after finishing sixth at the Patriot Invite, while Rebecca Reed of Pleasant Hill is a contender for third after placing third at the Liberty Invite. The team race could be close, with Macomb holding a slight edge over Lewistown.

Williamsville

Writer: Jacob Cranford

Williamsville brings a lot of star power with multiple ranked individuals and teams. With that being said, it was one of the most exciting 1A Central Illinois regionals in the state.

The boys’ side of the regional has three sub-15 guys who are ranked 3rd, 4th, and 8th. Those guys would be the Williamsville duo of #3 Lucas Hollinshead and #8 Ryan Patrick. Then there is #4 Corrie Green, who has been on absolute fire the last two weeks. The upfront race should be something special to watch. With Ryan Patrick on paper looking to be the favorite, Lucas Hollinshead and Corrie Green have been racing at the top of their game the last couple of weeks, so it should be a special race watching them battle it out for the top spot. Outside of those top three, the race is extremely deep for a 1A regional, with 11 guys being sub-16. The race for the last two spots is going to be extremely close. But a guy who has been extremely great the last couple of weeks and will be looking to grab one of those spots would be Thor Springman. The other guy who will be hard to beat for one of those last spots would be Jace Toland. The girls’ race is almost, if not more, exciting than the guys’ race, with the 8th, 12th, and 14th-ranked teams and the 9th- and 15th-ranked individuals. The girls’ individual race makes it look like Joelle Wilson is going to dominate the field, as she has broken 17:30 this season and has been racing so great. The race for 2nd to 5th should be exciting, with four girls having PRs that are super close, in a range of 17:50 to 18:10. Looking at that, it should be an extremely close race. The team race makes it look like Athens is going to dominate this field, but Williamsville is not that far behind them, so it appears that they will have Athens in their sights. But don't forget about Pleasant Plains, because they have a rich history of being such a great team that knows how to race together and win.

Sullivan

Writer: Clara Knutson

The boys’ race will be a showdown between some of the top boys individuals and teams in 1A. #2 Eli Anderson will face off against #6 Cayden Bostic and #9 Beau Green. Though Eli Anderson is predicted to come away with the win after an impressive time of 14:33 to win the Patriot XC Invite at Detweiller this past weekend, it will not be an easy victory. Beau Green ran 15:04 at the same meet. All three contenders are conference champions, Beau Green winning LPC, Cayden Bostic CIC, and Eli Anderson IPC. The boys team race will between #2 Clinton and #5 Monticello, both extremely strong teams each with multiple boys consistently running sub 16 minutes for 3 miles. Clinton will be led by Cayden Bostic, Brockton Summer, and Justin Droke, while Monticello's top boys will be Eli Anderson, Patrick McClure, and Tim Sikorski.

The girls’ race will showcase the top ranked individual and team in 1A. #1 Isabella Keller is predicted to come away with the win having had strong performances at Nike XC town Twilight and Cumberland County a few weeks ago. Other girls to watch out for are #3 Aubrey Denning, #8 Leah Shoaff, #18 Aubrey Peterson, #19 McKenna Beck, and #24 Taylor Mabry. The girl’s team race should be dominated by #1 Shelbyville, their strength shown in the past weeks in their team victories at CIC and the Patriot XC Invite. Other top teams contending for a podium finish are #15 Clinton, #25 Monticello, and Sullivan.

Toledo (Cumberland)

Writer: Clara Knutson

In the boys’ race, #7 Cameron Roedl and #18 Colby Roedl will compete for the regional title, while also most likely leading their other #20 Toledo (Cumberland) teammates to a team victory. Both Roedls have put together impressive seasons so far, both running PRs and breaking 15 minutes for the first time at Spartan Classic. Toledo’s other top team scorers are Gavin Whitaker and Damien Chardon. Other teams that could put down some strong results are Fairfield, led by Skylar Bladel, Treyton Lewis, and Kanyen Lingafelter, and Robinson, led by Jason Tingley, Kaden Pasero, and Krosby Goebel.

#20 Marshall and the team’s strong lead girls, #16 Madeleine Fox and Grace Thompson, should perform very well in the girls race. They both put down fast times at the Patriot XC Invite last week, Fox running 18:03 and Thompson running 18:42. However, they may have some competition in the freshman Reagan Winter who has a PR of 18:33. Rounding out Marshall’s top 5 are Addie Nave, Myah Boyd, and Olivia Moseley. Some other teams that will be battling it out in the girls team race are Neoga and Robinson.

Tuscola

Writer: Clara Knutson

The boys’ race should be dominated by the #6 St. Joseph-Ogden boys individuals and team. Leading the team will most likely be seniors #13 Colin Burnett and Camden Fisher, along with sophomore Adam Bello. All had great days at the Patriot XC invite last week, placing in the top 15 against some of the top boys in 1A. Other individuals to watch out for are Clark Roland and #10 Harrison Hays. In the team race, though St. Jo is predicted to win by a large margin, #9 Paris and #23 Tuscola are also set to perform well. Paris’s top five are Harrison Hays, Nathan Fonner, Charlie Sabens, Grayson Craffets, and Gage White, all with PRs under 17 minutes. Tuscola also has a strong top 5 of Will Pettry, Ky Gardner, Hunter Smith, Mitchell Atwater, and Michael Picazo.

In the girls’ race two top runners in 1A, #22 Grace Bressner and Ellie Emberson are set to compete for the regional title. Emberson has the faster season’s best with a time of 17:29 from the Trojan Classic XC Invite, though Bressner did recently put up an impressive result placing 10th at the Patriot XC invite. Other runners to look out for are Clara Knutson, Tessa Walker, Charlene Barbee, and Erin McCall. St. Jo is predicted to win the team race, led by Bressner, Walker, and Barbee. Although, teams like #13 Urbana University, Tolono (Unity), and Fithian (Oakwood) may not be far behind points-wise.

Murphysboro

Writer: Jacob Cranford

Murphysboro is going to be a great 1A regional coming out of Southern Illinois. There are a couple of ranked individuals, along with the fourth-ranked girls team, Anna-Jonesboro, and the 18th- and 19th-ranked teams, Pinckneyville and Murphysboro. There are also the #1, #19, and #21 ranked individuals in the 1A state race.

The boys' side features multiple individuals who could earn All-State honors in a couple of weeks at the state meet. The obvious favorite to win this race is Edgar Garcia. However, there is one guy who could possibly upset Edgar, and that would be Caiden Cook, who was ranked second going into last year's 1A state meet. Then you have Pacer Szopinski and Hayden Swiney, who have been racing great all season and will be competing for that third-place spot. There is another guy we can't forget about: Hunter Douglas, who has raced spectacularly and shouldn't be counted out of the race for third. On the team side, Pinckneyville is the favorite, but it will be a close team race between them and Murphysboro.

The girls' race features the fourth-ranked team in the state, Anna-Jonesboro, which makes them the obvious favorite to win the regional title. On the individual side, the race for first place looks to be between Jadyn Gerardi and Harper Ellermeyer, as they have been racing at the top of their game all season. Brooke Deterding, Kelly Smith, Sophie Kellerman, and Sophia Hill all look like runners who could grab an All-Regional spot.

Trenton (Wesclin)

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys race features three runners with a chance to take the individual title. Noah Crump of Roxana finished third at the Freeburg Invite and will look to contend for the win, while Metro East Lutheran teammates Dean Hemmer and Lucas Abbott enter after finishing first and second, respectively, at the Gateway Metro Conference Meet. Hemmer and Abbott will look to carry that momentum into the regional and challenge Crump for the individual championship. In the team race, Metro East Lutheran, ranked 13th in Class 1A, and Roxana, ranked 16th, headline the competition.

The girls race will feature a battle for the individual title between Myla McAllister of Breese Mater Dei and Lily Kamadulski of Maryville Christian. McAllister, ranked 20th in Class 1A, won the Wesclin Invite a few weeks ago, with Kamadulski finishing second. Both runners will look to build on those performances and compete for the regional championship. Gianna Stassi of Roxana is another runner to watch after finishing fourth at the Freeburg Invite, and she could contend for a top-three finish. In the team race, No. 7 Breese Mater Dei enters as the highest-ranked team in the field, while No. 24 Belleville Althoff Catholic will look to challenge.

West Frankfort (Frankfort)

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys race will be led by Cedric Johnson of Harrisburg, who enters as the favorite after finishing second at the SIRR Conference Meet. Briggs Miller of Benton, who placed fifth at the SIRR Conference Meet, will look to challenge for second, along with Andrew Benham of Carmi-White County, who won the Black Diamond Conference Meet. In the team race, Benton enters as the favorite to take the team title, while Vienna is expected to challenge for second.

The girls race will be led by Hadley Douglass of Norris City-Omaha-Enfield, who enters as the favorite after not losing a race since September 23. Colleen King of Vienna is a contender for second after finishing runner-up at last week's Black Diamond Conference Meet, while Keezley Wilson of Benton will also look to challenge for a top-two finish after placing 12th at the SIRR Conference Meet. The team race looks wide open, with Vienna, Harrisburg, and Hamilton County all capable of taking the title.

Manlius (Bureau Valley)

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys race will be headlined by Evan Knobloch of Stark County, who enters as the heavy favorite despite a few difficult races recently. Knobloch has already shown his potential with a victory at the First To The Finish Invite and has the ability to challenge for the Class 1A state title when he is at his best. West Manning of ROWVA-Williamsfield, Cash Verstraete of Kewanee Wethersfield, and Alex Belha of Sherrard will look to challenge for second after finishing 33rd, 37th, and 47th, respectively, at the Patriot Invite. In the team race, Rock Island Alleman enters as the favorite, with Kewanee Wethersfield expected to challenge for second.

The girls race features a strong group of contenders for the individual title, led by Dusti Smith of Stark County, Jana Vande Kemp of Cambridge, and Emalyn Millar of Mercer County. Smith, ranked fourth in Class 1A, finished second at the Patriot Invite, while Vande Kemp, ranked fifth, took third. Millar, the 10th-ranked runner in the state, finished fifth at the same meet and will also be in contention for the win. The team race should be competitive, with No. 11 Mercer County and No. 16 Port Byron Riverdale both capable of taking the title. No. 18 Cambridge is expected to finish third but could challenge for a higher spot if its lineup delivers a strong performance.

Seneca

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys race features several contenders for the individual title, led by Aiden Duhs and Jackson Rupiper of Illinois Valley Central, who are ranked 24th and 22nd, respectively, in Class 1A. Duhs finished fourth at the IPC Conference Meet, while Rupiper placed 10th at the Patriot Invite. Caden Hageman of Hinckley-Big Rock, the state's 14th-ranked runner, could also challenge for the win if he returns to racing after not competing since September 22. Caleb Scheirer of Lowpoint-Washburn is another runner to watch after finishing 18th at the Patriot Invite and could surprise the field. In the team race, No. 4 Illinois Valley Central enters as the favorite, while Amboy, Princeville, and Lowpoint-Washburn will battle for second.

The girls race will be led by Anniston Judd of Putnam County, who enters as the favorite after finishing ninth at the Patriot Invite. Bethany Sennett of Princeville will look to challenge for the win after placing 16th at the Patriot Invite. Sennett earned All-State honors last year and has the experience to compete near the front. In the team race, Illinois Valley Central enters as the favorite, with Princeville expected to challenge for second.

Winnebago

Writer: Jacob Cranford

This regional is shaping up to be an exciting race on both the boys' and girls' sides, with several individuals to watch and two strong team favorites. On the boys' side, East Dubuque looks like the team to beat, while Winnebago will look to continue its success on the girls' side after winning the state title last year. The boys' individual race features several runners to keep an eye on, including Vinny Gullone, Blake Lindberg, and Jacob Schroder. All three will be looking to put together strong races and compete near the front of the field. With regional titles and opportunities to advance to the next level on the line, this should be an exciting race to watch. On the team side, East Dubuque enters as the team to beat and will look to show its strength by putting together a strong performance across its lineup. The girls' race has plenty of talent as well, with Molly Webb, Ella Law, and Ella Carlson standing out as individuals to watch. Each will be looking to make her mark in a competitive field and finish the regional with a strong performance. On the team side, Winnebago is the team to beat after winning last year's state championship. The defending state champions will look to carry that success into the postseason and prove they are still one of the top teams in the state. With individual talent and a strong team favorite on the line, this regional should provide plenty of excitement on both sides.

2A

Chicago (De La Salle)

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys race will be led by Connor Lane of Chicago University, who enters as the favorite after finishing third at the ISL Championships. Lane placed 76th at last year's state meet and will look to improve on that result this season. Kevin Reyes of Evergreen Park is expected to challenge for second after finishing fifth at the SSC Red Conference Meet. Reyes also qualified for the state meet last year, giving him valuable postseason experience. In the team race, Chicago University enters as the favorite, with Evergreen Park expected to finish second.

The girls race will be led by Celia Lukas of Chicago University, who enters as the favorite after finishing second at the ISL Championships. Lukas placed 77th at last year's state meet and will look to improve on that finish this season. Teammate June Ridgway is another contender for second after taking third at the ISL Championships, while Nicole Mitchell of Evergreen Park could challenge for a top-two finish after placing second at the Oak Forest Mad Dash. The team race could be a close battle between Chicago University and Chicago Mother McAuley, with both programs having a chance to take the title.

Maple Park (Kaneland)

Writer: Jacob Cranford

The Maple Park Kaneland Regional features a loaded field on both the boys' and girls' sides, with returning state champions looking to continue their success and several top individuals ready to battle for the regional title. Dixon headlines the boys' team race as the defending state champions, while Wheaton St. Francis enters as the girls' team to beat. With plenty of talent throughout both fields, this regional should provide an exciting start to the postseason. The boys' race is absolutely stacked on the individual side, led by the duo of Averick Wiseman and Dean Geiger. Both will be names to watch as they look to establish themselves near the front of a competitive field. Carson Kaiser is another runner who could factor into the individual battle, while Thomas Jochum adds even more talent to an already deep group. With several strong contenders in the mix, the fight for the top individual spots should be one of the biggest storylines of the meet. In the team race, Dixon enters with plenty of expectations as the returning state champions. The Dukes will look to carry that championship momentum into the postseason and show why they remain one of the teams to beat. On the girls' side, Wheaton St. Francis leads the team conversation and will look to back up its status as the team to beat with a strong performance across its lineup. Individually, Elena Mamminga, Vivian Tryfonopoulos, and Erin Hinsdale are three runners to keep an eye on as they look to compete near the front of the field. Each will have an opportunity to make an impact in a regional that features plenty of postseason stakes. With Dixon looking to defend its standing among the state's top boys' programs and Wheaton St. Francis aiming to lead the girls' team race, the Maple Park Kaneland Regional has all the ingredients for an exciting day of racing.

West Chicago (Wheaton Academy)

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys race features three runners with a chance to take the individual title. Nicholas Rastatter of Chicago Latin, the 19th-ranked runner in Class 1A, enters after winning the ISL Championships and finishing 32nd at last year's state meet. Teammate Gavin Moffat will also be in contention after placing second at the ISL Championships and 41st at state last year. Mesfin Diedrich of Hinsdale South is another contender after finishing fourth at the West Suburban Gold Conference Meet. The team race should be close, with No. 9 Hinsdale South in Class 2A and No. 12 Chicago Latin in Class 2A both capable of taking the title.

The girls race will be led by Viviana Tryfonopoulos of Chicago Kennedy, the 18th-ranked runner in Class 2A and the favorite after finishing fifth at the CPS Championships. Francesca Mora of Chicago Latin will look to take second after winning the ISL Championships and earning All-State honors with a 17th-place finish at last year's state meet. Wheaton Academy teammates Brylee Painter and Addie Painter will both contend for third after finishing fifth and fourth, respectively, at the Chicagoland Christian Conference Meet. In the team race, No. 5 Wheaton Academy enters as the favorite, with Chicago Latin expected to challenge for second.

Belvidere

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys race will be led by Judah Binger of Belvidere North, the 14th-ranked runner in Class 2A and the favorite after winning the NIC-10 Conference Meet. Binger finished 11th at last year's state meet and will look to build on that performance with another strong postseason race. Chase Teresi of Crystal Lake Central, ranked 21st in the state, will contend for second after finishing runner-up at the Fox Valley Conference Meet. In the team race, No. 6 Belvidere North and No. 9 Rockford Boylan headline the competition, with both teams capable of taking the title. Sycamore, ranked 14th in Class 2A, and Crystal Lake South will also contend for a top-three finish.

Elmwood Park

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys race will be led by Luis Coss of Chicago Lakeview, who enters as the favorite after finishing fifth at the CPS City Championships. Coss earned All-State honors last year with a 25th-place finish and will look to build on that performance. Matt Andersen of Fenton will contend for second after placing sixth at the Upstate 8 Conference Meet, while Blake Quinley of Northridge Prep is another contender after finishing second at the Chicagoland Christian Conference Meet and 56th at last year's state meet. Ciara Tany of Ridgewood and Amy Kroupa of Fenton will also contend for the win after placing eighth and ninth, respectively, at the Upstate 8 Conference Meet. In the team race, Chicago Northside and Arlington Heights St. Viator both have a chance to take the title.

Lake Forest

Writer: Ian Adler

The boys race will likely be led by Bryant Lester (Vernon Hills). He is the overwhelming favorite to win, being ranked #6 in Class 2A. Slightly behind him should be Copper Summy (Lakes), Andrew Calderon (Deerfield), and Will Gagamov (Vernon Hills). The last time Summy and Lester faced each other was at the Pat Savage invitational, where Lester came out on top. Both Calderon and Summy have personal best times in the low 14:50s, and have the opportunity to contest for the regional title. On the team side, #4-ranked Deerfield is the favorite to be regional champions. They have a very impressive 1-5 featuring star runners, Andrew Calderon, Ethan Reich, Beckett Shiffrin, and Logan Lou, along with a rapidly improving Jasper Fine as their number 5 runner. All of their top 5 are under 15:30. They will be the heavy favorites, followed by Crystal Lake (Prairie Ridge), and Vernon Hills.

On the girls side, Emaline Foster (Prairie Ridge) is the clear favorite, being ranked #2 in Class 2A, with a season's best of 17:04.3 at First to the Finish. Following her breakout race this past Saturday, Azalea Modes will likely be leading the chase pack along with Anneke Dam and Estella Ollinger. On the team side, Crystal Lake (Prairie Ridge) is the heavy favorite to win the regional title and looks to be in contention for a state title, but Deerfield will try its best to contest them. Deerfield has been having some major improvements from the back half of the top 5, including standout performances from Avni Sharma and Riley Shafer at the CSL Conference Meet. They will have the opportunity to show off their depth this Saturday against a top-ranked Class 2A team.

Bethalto (Civic Memorial)

Writer: Jacob Cranford

The Bethalto Civic Memorial Regional features a competitive mix of teams and individuals looking to start the postseason on a high note. Marion leads the conversation in the boys' team race, while Mascoutah enters as the girls' team to beat. With several individuals capable of making an impact, both races should bring plenty of competition across the field. On the boys' side, the Greer twins are two of the top names to watch, but they will have plenty of competition as they look to work their way toward the front of the field. Andrew Joliff, Nolan Frost, and Wyatt Kremer are also runners to keep an eye on, with all three looking to challenge the top contenders. With several talented individuals in the mix, the race for the top spots should be an interesting matchup. In the team competition, Marion enters as the squad to beat. A strong performance throughout its lineup will be important as the team looks to secure the regional title. The girls' individual race features a solid group of contenders, including Lydia Huffman, Laney Sambursky, Milla Cryder, and Ryleigh Piller. Huffman is one of the names to watch, but Sambursky, Cryder, and Piller will also look to make their presence felt in what could be a competitive battle near the front. On the team side, Mascoutah is the team to beat and will look to use its depth to separate itself from the competition. With regional titles on the line and several individuals aiming for strong postseason performances, Bethalto should deliver an exciting day of racing on both sides.

Jacksonville

Writer: Jacob Cranford

The Jacksonville Regional is shaping up to be an exciting meet, with a tight battle expected in the boys' team race and a strong favorite emerging on the girls' side. Taylorville and Triad look poised for a close team showdown, while Chatham Glenwood will look to separate itself from the competition and take control of the girls' race. With several individuals to watch across both fields, there should be plenty of storylines as the postseason gets underway. The boys' team race could come down to the wire, with Taylorville and Triad projected to be separated by a narrow margin. Both teams will need strong performances throughout their lineups to gain the upper hand in what could be one of the most competitive team battles at the regional. Individually, Liam Bettis, Colt Perkins, and Adam Galvan are three names to watch. Each will look to put together a strong race and position himself near the front of the field. With the team competition expected to be so close, every finishing position could play a major role in deciding the regional champion. On the girls' side, Chatham Glenwood enters as the clear team favorite and will look to dominate the competition with a strong overall performance. The individual race, however, features several runners who could make their mark. Ali Londrigan and Sophie Rentmeister are two names to watch, while Elayna Harker and Ali Broaddus will also look to challenge for strong finishes. With a team favorite looking to take control and several individuals competing for top spots, the girls' race offers plenty of intrigue. Jacksonville should deliver an exciting regional, with a potentially close boys' team battle and a girls' field looking to challenge Chatham Glenwood.

Mattoon

Writer: Jacob Cranford

The Mattoon Regional features strong competition on both the boys' and girls' sides, with Mahomet-Seymour entering as the team to beat in both races. While the Bulldogs will look to establish themselves as the top team, several talented individuals will be looking to make their mark and deliver standout performances as the postseason gets underway. On the boys' side, one of the biggest storylines is Quaid Berger's return from injury. Berger will look to make a statement and show what he can do as he gets back into postseason racing. His performance will be one to watch in a field that features several other talented runners. Judah Dicks, Tayten Gergen, and Tate Bode are also names to keep an eye on as they look to challenge near the front and compete for strong individual finishes. In the team race, Mahomet-Seymour enters as the favorite and will look to use its depth to pull away from the competition. With several individuals capable of making an impact, the boys' race should provide an exciting matchup. The girls' team race also centers around Mahomet-Seymour, which will look to control the field and secure the regional title. Individually, Anniston Huff, Paige Janesen, and Farah Scott are three runners to watch as they look to compete near the front of the pack. Each will have an opportunity to make an impact in a competitive field as the postseason begins. With Mahomet-Seymour looking to sweep the team titles and several individuals aiming for big performances, the Mattoon Regional should deliver plenty of excitement on both sides.

Geneseo

Writer: Brodie Peterson

This Regional is one of the most stacked Regionals that we have in 2A this year. Not to mention, 2A has been shown to be the most dominant division in terms of depth this season, and this Regional is no different, featuring 2A No. 3 and No. 5, Cuyler and Everett Swanson of Morris. Either twin could take the win, but they’ll be trailed by 2A No. 7 Ben Gorsage of Washington. Gorsage ran a killer 14:26 on a fast Metamora course that they’ll be at next week. However, this hilly course may be a change of pace for these speed demons. The team race will be a great battle, as No. 19 Metamora and No. 20 Dunlap have less than a minute difference between their scoring squad. However, No. 14 Washington is still very much in the picture, even though their lowstick Gorsage will not affect the points greatly in a smaller meet such as Regionals.

The Girls race will be dominated by Geneseo's Brooklyn Smith. Following her will be her teammate Evelyn Debaene, with two Dunlap runners in Sanjana Siddaraju and Aubry Ott. Close behind them will also be Morris’ Aubrey Lines. After this stretch of individuals, it’s a toss-up to see who will land in certain places, but these are pretty solid bets for All-Regions. On the team side, Dunlap looks to be the favorite. However, an upset could happen from a Metamora or Geneseo team having a great day at the Regional meet. Besides that, these teams are almost guaranteed Sectional bids, so it’s more about the plaque than the qualifying for them.

Midlothian (Bremen)

The boys race will be an absolute domination by the guys of Lemont. Projected to go #2-6, this squad will have an easy win for the day. Although the lack of lowsticks may hurt at the State Finals, this week their leads of Scott Biedess and Gavin Abad will try their best to chase down Hudson Neth of Oak Forest in order to grab the individual title as well. This pack has one of the tightest team spreads in the state this year, and if they can all work together to lower that, Top 10 is definitely achievable for them. The other teams on the team side will have a good shot to get between 2nd and 4th. However, there is a pretty big drop off after Harvey Thornton, Oak Forest, and Tinley Park.

The Girls race will also be even more dominant with Lemont being the clear favorite. Not only will there be a battle between Lemont’s Kaida Mescher and Hannah Farley for the individual title, but the next 3 of their top 5 all fall within the top 7. Getting less than 20 points at a Regional Meet is a very hard task, but Lemont has a chance to crush everyone this week. Mary Kate Moran of Joliet Catholic Academy is going to be surrounded by navy blue, but could pose a threat to them throughout the race. On the team side, Joliet Catholic Academy is a safe bet for the silver trophy, while Tinley Park is a lock for bronze. The rest is a toss-up for the remaining teams in order to make it to Sectionals.

Peoria Notre Dame

Writer: Brodie Peterson

Now, don’t worry too much about the times for this race, as PND is known for their 3.1 mile course, which they will be running this weekend. For individuals on the boys side, No. 8 Maxwell Carter of Morton and No. 10 Andrew Aldeman of Normal University are going to duke it out for the individual title. No. 15 Maxwell Kirby of Peoria Notre Dame will run to defend his home course for the individual title as well. Not to mention, a crazy stud in Eli Hartman from Bloomington has been having a crazy breakout this year. He’s ranked No. 18, but could challenge these state caliber runners for a title as well. On the team side, No. 2 Morton is going to crush the competition, no doubt about that. Their depth is one of the best in the state and has up to 10 guys beating some team’s number 1 runners. PND and Normal University will follow.

On the Girls side, No. 11 Lorelei Hulsing will lead the pack, with No. 12 Lillian Chaddock of Peoria Notre Dame will have a duel to determine who wins this Regional Title. These two have been having great seasons so far. If they work together in the post season, they could take each other into the Top 10 at the State Finals. Taylor Short of Lincoln will be right behind them, but will most likely lead the next pack behind them. On the team side, Peoria Notre Dame is the favorite. However, upsets are possible with teams like Morton and Bloomington hot on their trail. It’s going to come down to who has the better day, but all of them will be able to advance.

Writer: Carson Vittorio

Gabriel, ranked 13th in Class 3A, finished third at the SPC Conference Meet and placed 61st at last year's state meet. Hanrahan, ranked 12th in the state, won the SWSC Conference Meet and finished 23rd at state last fall, making both runners strong contenders for the regional title. Lincoln-Way Central will look to turn its depth into a regional team title, while Lincoln-Way East is expected to finish second. Heidi Schaaf of Andrew will be one of the top challengers looking to prevent a Lincoln-Way Central sweep of the individual race.

Normal Community

The boys individual race should feature a battle between Will McGinness of Edwardsville and Charles Ray of Quincy. McGinness won the Southwestern Conference Meet and will look to carry that momentum into the regional, while Ray enters the race after finishing third at the Western Big 6 Conference Meet and could challenge for the individual title. Miles Cintron of O’Fallon is another runner to watch for a top-three finish after placing second at the Southwestern Conference Meet. In the team race, O’Fallon and Edwardsville appear to be the top contenders for the regional title.

Rock Island

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys individual race will be led by Elliot Batz of Rock Island, the ninth-ranked runner in Class 3A and the favorite after winning the Western Big 6 Conference Meet. Batz earned All-State honors last fall with a 17th-place finish at the state meet and will look to continue his strong season with a regional title. Dominic Frigo of Plainfield North, ranked 15th in Class 3A, is expected to challenge for second after finishing fourth at the SPC Conference Meet. His teammate, Dominic LaMontagna, has shown signs of being a potential All-Stater this season and could finish in the top five after placing fifth at conference. Plainfield South's Ethan Ensign and Kellan Hernandez, who finished eighth and ninth at the SPC Conference Meet, respectively, could also challenge for top-five finishes. Plainfield South will be without Alex Batsala and Dylan Buturusis, which will have an impact on the team race. No. 14 Plainfield North enters as a slight favorite with its full lineup available, but No. 1 Plainfield South still has enough runners to contend for the win despite the absences.

The girls individual race should feature a close battle between Athena Triner of Yorkville and Marlie Czarniewski of Plainfield North. Triner, ranked 14th in Class 3A, won the SPC Conference Meet and was the Plainfield Central Regional champion last season. Czarniewski, ranked 15th in the state, finished second at conference and placed ninth at last year's state meet, making her a strong contender for the regional title. No. 12 Yorkville is expected to finish second, with Triner leading the way, while No. 20 Minooka will look to take third behind Nahs.

Chicago (Lane)

Writer: Ella Buciak

The Lane Regional looks to be an interesting matchup of the CPS and CCL conferences from last week. Returning champions of the CPS conference, Lane Tech (Boys 3A #11, Girls #5), is projected to win both races with their front runners #3 Sam Assefa and #9 Ainsley Carter. On the girls side, DePaul’s #22 Emily Stecky and Chloe Milton, Payton’s Macy Ferschinger, and Lane’s Sienna O’Malley and Isabella Chaplin look to be the chase pack after Carter. There looks to be an interesting dynamic between #13 DePaul College Prep and #24 St. Ignatius, as DePaul won conference last week with a narrow win against Ignatius, which should lead to an interesting competition for second as a team. The boys race, after Assefa, looks to be followed by Whitney Young’s Amilo Rajandram, Cole Magac of Lane, and Charlie Maida of St. Ignatius. Team rankings for the boys are projected for a second by Payton followed by Whitney Young and St. Ignatius.

Writer: Carson Vittorio

The boys individual race will be led by Sam Hill of St. Charles North, the second-ranked runner in Class 3A who enters the regional undefeated this season. Hill won the DuKane Conference Meet and finished ninth at last year's state meet, making him the clear favorite to take the regional title. Jack McLarty of Hononegah will look to challenge for second after finishing second at the NIC-10 Conference Meet and running 14:49 at the Lakes Sunset Invitational. Hill's teammate, Logan Hitching, is also in contention for second after placing runner-up at the DuKane Conference Meet. The battle for second should be more competitive, with Ruth Dellaria of Lake Park, Adley Wilson of St. Charles East, and Molly Mocko of Glenbard West all in contention. Dellaria finished 13th at the DuKane Conference Meet and will look to rebound after a difficult conference race, having placed 55th at last year's state meet. Wilson, ranked 17th in Class 3A, finished fourth at conference and was 59th at state last fall. Mocko also finished fourth at her conference meet and brings championship experience after winning the USATF Junior Olympics last year. In the team race, No. 6 Glenbard West is the favorite and will look to secure the regional title. No. 17 St. Charles East, No. 19 Wheaton Warrenville South, and No. 21 Elmhurst York are all capable of challenging for second, setting up a competitive battle behind the Hilltoppers.

Naperville North

Writer: Sydney Cline

As the IHSA season heads into week 8, the competition is only getting stronger. Naperville North, hosting a regional meet this weekend has some of the top athletes in 3A currently. On the boys side, Jesse Gudauskas, of Naperville (Neuqua Valley) who is currently 3A #5, has consistently improved his individual 3A ranking throughout the season. With taking first at the DuPage Valley XC Conference Championships he should be on track for winning this regional as well. Gudauskas teammate, Grayson Meek (3A #23) is the next top individual of this regional who should finish not long after Gudauskas. Meek finished right after Gudauskas in the Dupage Valley conference meet taking second place. Naperville Neuqua Valley, currently 3A #18, is not the only top ranked team here at this meet. Naperville (Central) currently sits in front of Neuqua at 3A #12 along with Batavia in the top 25 as well, sitting at 3A #23. The girls side has some top 3A individuals as well coming from historically strong programs. Avery Hacker, a senior of Batavia is currently 3A #6 and should take the win for the Naperville North regional. Hacker finished second last week at the DuKane Conference XC Championships behind Kara Glen of St. Charles North. The senior also recently made her commitment to the University of Illinois to run cross country and track. Brynn Bartkus, of Downers Grove South is currently ranked 3A #16 and is only getting started as she is just a freshman.  Last week, she took first in the West Suburban Gold XC Conference meet. Bartkus and Hacker should be two close back to back finishers on the girls side. Batavia and Downers Grove South happen to be the leading teams at this regional as well with not just top individuals but strong teams overall. Downers Grove South is currently ranked #15 in 3A and Batavia is #18 in 3A for this week.

Summit (Argo)

Writer: Sydney Cline

The Summit (Argo) Regional features several southwest suburban programs focusing on strong team performance. On the girls side, Orland Park (Sandburg) is a strong team to watch after earning the #25 spot in the Week 8 Class 3A rankings along with four girls predicted to finish consecutively in the top placings and nearly Sandburg runners to finish in the top 15. Sandburg has also shown strong individual potential this season with Ella Giblin finishing first in the South West Suburban Conference, with an undeniable strong group of teams like Lincoln Way Central. Giblin teammate, Annika Trehan, is likely expected to finish after Giblin taking the second place win. On the boys side, Burbank (Reavis) brings their top individual, senior Santiago Chavez who is currently ranked as 3A #1. Chavez finished 21st at the 2025 IHSA State Meet and has evidently shown drastic improvement for his senior season as he aims to keep his strong lead heading into sectionals and state. Reavis will continue to build around their front-runner and compete against other area programs like Sandburg, Marist, Brother Rice, St. Laurence, Stagg, Richards and Oak Lawn. Sandburg’s girls having a ranked team and lots of front-running ability will be interesting to watch, while Chavez gives Reavis a notable individual who will be one to for sure watch in the last few weeks of the cross country season. Some other schools this weekend looking to give their best performances this week include Blue Island (Eisenhower), Burbank (St. Laurence), Chicago (Brother Rice), Chicago (Lindblom), Chicago (Marist), Chicago (Mt. Carmel), Chicago (Simeon), Oak Lawn (Community), Oak Lawn (Richards), Palos Heights (Shepard), Palos Hills (Stagg), and Summit (Argo).
