Pack Media and Illinois Running News Is Looking For Help!

Both Pack Media and Illinois Running News are actively looking for additional help this year, offering unique opportunities for students and young professionals interested in the journalism field. While each organization operates in its own distinct way, both provide valuable hands-on experience in sports media, from event coverage and interviewing to writing, editing, and digital storytelling. These roles are ideal for anyone looking to build a strong foundation in journalism while working closely with the cross country and track & field community.

Pack Media

A job with Pack Media offers a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to produce high-quality sports coverage while also providing paid opportunities with flexible scheduling. Staff members are involved in live streaming meets, operating cameras, assisting with broadcast production, and helping set up and tear down equipment at venues across the state. One of the major benefits of working with Pack Media is the ability to choose your own hours and accept assignments that fit your availability. Team members can also take race video at any Palatine Pack–timed meets, adding another layer of experience in capturing and producing competition footage. Beyond the technical side, team members may contribute to on-air segments, pre-meet shows, interviews, and social media coverage, gaining real-world experience in storytelling, teamwork, and time management.

Illinois Running News

An Illinois Running News intern plays a direct role in covering high school cross country and track & field across the state through an unpaid, flexible internship that allows you to choose your own hours. Interns assist with writing race recaps, athlete features, and previews, while also helping gather results, conduct interviews, and contribute to social media and digital content. The position provides consistent experience in reporting, editing, and deadline-driven journalism, while working closely with a media outlet that reaches a large statewide audience. It is an opportunity to develop a professional writing portfolio, learn how a sports news platform operates, and gain firsthand experience in covering competitive athletics at a high level.
