We did our boys version of who the 5th runner of the year is yesterday. Now we are onto the girls. This is your opportunity to vote for who you believe was the best 5th runner in the state of Illinois this year. We used the best 5th runners from the state meet to construct this list. Here are your nominees.
Scarlett Moriarty (York) - Moriarty has rotated her position inside of York's Top 7 at every meet this year and stepped up massively at the State Meet. Her top performances from the season include Leavey Invite (16th, 18:33), Harvey Braus (18th, 18:19), Richard Spring (46th, 18:31), Palatine Meet Of Champions (32nd, 18:29), WSC-Silver Conference (13th, 18:28), Elk Grove Regional (11th, 18:50), Lake Park Sectional (17th, 18:02), and IHSA State (52nd, 17:48). She was 159th at NXR Midwest in 19:31.
Victoria Tarara (Barrington) - Tanara made a massive impact to the Barrington team as a freshman and was their 5th runner at State. Her best performances this year were at FTTF Invite (15th, 18:27), Palatine Meet Of Champions (44th, 18:39), Loyola Flight Night (5th, 18:11), MSL Conference (15th, 18:22), Warren Regional (4th, 17:43), Hoffman Estates Sectional (11th, 17:43), and IHSA State (68th, 17:56). She took 130th at NXR Midwest in 19:14.
Ava Gilley (Downers Grove North) - Gilley was consistently the Trojans 5th runner this year and had a very consistent season. Her best performances were at EIU Showdown (8th, 19:07), Mike Kuharic (4th, 18:36 [5K]), Harvey Braus (16th,18:17), Richard Spring (39th, 18:22), Solorio Invite (7th, 17:58), Naperville Twilight (12th (17:28), WSC-Silver Conference (8th, 18:11), Hinsdale Central Sectional (9th. 17:36 [2.9]), and IHSA State (65th, 17:55). She was 89th place at NXR Midwest in 18:53.
Chloe Kammes (Batavia) - Kammes had a huge race at the state meet that saw her run over a minute PR. She consistently had performances over 19:00 until the state meet.
