Top 10 Athletes To Watch At March Madness Youth Invite

Watch out! The middle schoolers are back on track! This weekend will be the March Madness Youth meet and Huntley High School. We have many stacked events and opportunities for great competition and Many athletes aim to deliver their best performances this weekend and shine at this meet. 


Girls

1. Berrit Shure

Events: 800m

Berrit Shure is a member of the Chicago Trailblazers Track Club and will be competing in the 800m this sunday. She holds a PR of 2:20 that she ran this past weekend on february 22nd at the New Generation Youth Track and Field Showcase. She will be the top athlete to watch.


2. Chloe Wettstein

Events: 800m

Chloe Wettstein, reigning from the Palatine Pack Track Club, will also be competing in the 800m this sunday. She recently performed at the Palatine Pack Youth Invite on February 16th where she ran a 1:47 600m to take 2nd place. It will be exciting to see what she can pull from the 600m to the 800m as She shows incredible strength over this distance.


3. Maddie Serur

Events: 1600m

Madeline Serur of Palatine Pack Track Club is competing in the 1600m. At the Palatine pack Youth invite she won the 600m in a time of 1:44. This will be her first 1600m race since her outdoor time trial in december. We will see how she can compete against the likes of Jane Vaughan, Adelaide Galla, and Guadalupe Lopez.


4. Jane Vaughan

Events: 1600m

Speaking of Jane Vaughan, she is a member of Pinon Track Club Elite and will be the key athlete to watch for in the 1600m as she holds a PR of 5:21 in the mile from the Nike Outdoor Nationals Meet this past outdoor season, where she also split a 5:19.66 though the 1600m split. She recently opened her season in A 5:33 at the Akinosun Invitational. It will be extremely anticipated to see how she performs up front. 


5. Adelaide Galla

Events: 1600m

Adelaide Galla of palatine pack has yet to open her 2025 indoor track and field season, though she did run an impressive 5:25 160om this past december in a time trial. She is the number three seed so hopefully we can see her mix it up with Jane Vaughan and Guadalupe Lopez.


6. Hazel Atkins

Events: 800m

Hazel Atkins of Shelbyville Moulton middle school will be another athlete to look out for in the 800m. She shows promise in the 800m as she holds PRs of 1:55 in the 600m from the Palatine Pack Youth Invite and a 2:41 in the 800m. She is seeded at 2:29 so it's a mystery of how fast she can actually run. 


7. Abigail Kocher

Events: 800m

Abigail Kocher, yet another member of the Palatine Pack Track Club will also be in attendance to mix it up in this 800m race. She ran 1:51 in the 600m at the palatine pack youth invite. She dropped her 600m PR by 6 seconds so it will be exciting to see how that will translate to her 800m race this sunday. 


8. Addison Davis

Events: 800m

Addison Davis of Elgin Sharks Track Club, is the number 2 seed in the 800m with a time of 2:26. She also competed in the 600m at the Palatine pack youth invite running a time of 1:50. She practically matched her PR from Gatley so it will be exciting to see what she can drop on a 200m track. 


9. Desiree Smith

Events: 60m , 200m

Desiree Smith of the Chicago TrailBlazers will be one of the few top sprinters to watch this sunday. She is competing in both the 60 ans 200. She is the top seed in the 200m with a seed time of 27.08 and she is the second place seed for the 60m in a time of 8.47. It will be a spectacle if she can beat micah lewis in the 60m and hold off Sonya Howery in the 200m. 


10. Guadalupe Lopez

Events: 800m, 1600m

Guadalupe Lopez, another member of MiniCRR will also be fulfilling the 800m, 1600m double this sunday. She holds PRs of 5:21 in the 1600m and 2:30 in the 800m. It will be very interesting to see how she competes in each event and with the other girls up front. 


Boys

1. Brayden Domont

Events: 800m

Brayden Domont of Bourbonnais UGC middle school, opened his 2025 track and field season on January 31st at THE CIRCUIT Chicago meet. He opened with a 800m performance of 2:05.96. This past cross country season Brayden won the Illinois youth XC championships in a time of 12:48. Brayden managed to take down big names like Ethan Carter, Abe Garcia, Joseph Yap and Alrik Swan. It will be a spectacle to see how he mixes it up in the 800m. 


2. Ethan Carter

Events: 3200m

Reigning from Dixon Distance track club, Ethan Carter is Coming off a fantastic past few weeks. He placed 3rd at the Palatine Pack Youth Invite on February 16th with a time of 1:38.18. He also ran a new 800m PR of 2:08.34 at the New Generation Youth Track & Field showcase. He will certainly be on the watch for the distance side as he now holds PR’s of 2:08 in the 800m and 4:34 in the mile. This Sunday he is attacking the 10 minute barrier in the 3200m, it will be exciting to see what he can achieve. 


3. Abe Garcia

Events: 800m

Abe Garcia, another member of the Dixon Distance Track Club, is also coming off a quick past few weeks. Like Carter, he ran at both the  Palatine Pack Youth Invite on February 16th and the New Generation Youth Track & Field showcase. He won both of those races in times of 1:35.05 in the 600m and 2:05.96 in the 800m. The 800m of which is identical to Brayden Domont ran at THE CIRCUIT Chicago. He will provide quite close competition with Brayden Domont and Dylan Reigner up front in the 800m.


4. Joseph Yap

Events: 1600m

Joseph Yap, a member of Pinon Track Club Elite, recently opened his season with a 4:57.51 performance in the 1 mile distance at the Hoka Misfits Invite, as well as a 3,000m performance of 9:39. This past Cross country season he ended his season with a race at the Illinois XC youth Championships where he placed fourth with a time of 13:38. He will be among the top athletes to watch in the 1600m. 


5. Dylan Reigner

Events: 800m

Dylan Reigner of Palatine Pack Track Club is a key athlete to be looking for this sunday.  He currently holds a 2:07 800m to his name. Dylan also shows off remarkable speed with his  54.98 400m clocking. Dylan will be the 3rd of the main 4 athletes to watch for during the 800m.


6. Alrik Swan

Events: 800m, 1600m

Alrik Swan will be the 4th of the main 4 athletes to watch in the 800m. Alrik Swan, a part of the miniCRR Club, most notably ran a 4:49.63 1600m and 2:11.29 800m to double at the Worril Invite on February 1st. We will see the extent of his doubling abilities on Sunday, as he is once again doubling the 1600m and 800m.


7. Gavin Moffat

Events: 800m, 1600m

Gavin Moffat, another member of the MiniCRR Club will also be competing in both the 800m and the 1600m. Gavin opened his season with this double at the Worrill Invite on february first. He ran 4:46 in the 1600m and 2:12 in the 800m. We will see if he runs faster in either of those events this sunday. 


8. Phoenix Viger

Events: 3200m, 1600m

Phoenix Viger, the younger sibling of Camyn Viger, will be attempting the 1600m, 3200m double. He recently opened his season with a mile PR at the Hoka Misfits invite where he ran 4:54. This past cross country season he placed 6th at the Illinois Youth XC Championships. He is seeded at 10:36 in the 3200m and 4:53 in the 1600m. 


9. Bentlee Lawrenz

Events: 1600m

Bentlee Lawrenz of Dixon Distance has had a fiery start to his season. He opened his season at the Palatine Pack Youth Invite on february 16th where he broke 5 minutes for the first time and won in a huge upset taking down Alrik Swan. We haven't seen him since but seeing as he is only a 7th grader it will be exciting to see what he can do. 


10. Julian Minkov

Events: 1600m

Julian Minkov, a member of Pinon Track Club Elite, will be the final athlete to watch for this sunday. This past cross country season Julian managed to place 11th at the Illinois Youth XC Championships. He opened his 2025 track and field season with performances of 4:53 in the mile at Hoka Misfits and 2:10 in the 800m at THE CIRCUIT Chicago. He also showed off his speed in the 400m at the New Generation youth track and field showcase with a time of 56.39.
