Boys -
1. Brayden Domont (8th, Bourbonnais/Dixon Distance)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Domont has been the consensus #1 junior high runner in the state this year. He has the fastest 2 mile PR in the state when he ran 10:04 at the Channahon Invite and when he had the fastest time of the day at the state meet when he won the class 4A state title. He joins the Dixon Distance Club here and will be looking to come away with a win in the 13-14 race. He has stayed fit it seems as he won the Hot Chocolate 5K in Chicago with a time of 16:00.
2. Ethan Carter (8th, Dixon [Reagan]/Dixon Distance)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Carter was the 3A State Champion at the IESA State Meet. He ran the second fastest time of the day when he ran 10:14 for the win. He will have a bigger challenge as he goes up against Brayden Domont. He will be a potential winner of this race.
3. Alrik Swan (8th, Chicago [St. Matthias]/MiniCRR)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Swan knows what its like to race in big time races as is a 4x All-Stater for the IESA State Meet. He was 2nd at the IESA 1A State Meet this year and has ran in the 10:30s now twice this season. He will look to finish in the top 3 in the 13-14 race.
4. Carter Hollis (8th, Wilmette/Palatine Pack)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Hollis was 5th at the IESA 4A State Meet in a time of 10:46 which is just off his PR. He has had an excellent season and will be looking to make an impact in the 13-14 race as Palatine Pack's top runner. He was 11th in this meet last year for the 2 mile and will be higher up in the race this time.
5. Ojas Gupta (8th, Chicago [Catherine Cook]/Chicago Lakeside Rabbits)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Gupta does not run as part of the IESA, so he was unfortunately unable to showcase his talent at the highest level. The 8th grader from Chicago has a PR of 10:40 for 2 miles and had some big wins this season which includes winning the St. Helen Open over Alrik Swan. He is a wildcard in the 13-14 race.
6. Jaron Greve (8th, Dixon [Reagan]/Dixon Distance)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Greve had a big day at the IESA 3A State Championship where he placed 5th and broke 11:00 for the first time as he ran 10:54. If he runs the same way he did at state then you can expect a top 10 performance from him in the 13-14 race and maybe sneak into the top 5.
7. Greyson Ince (8th, Normal [Metcalf]/Chicago Flyers)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Ince looks to be the #1 runner for one of the host teams, the Chicago Flyers. He didn't have his best performance of the year when he took 17th at the IESA 2A State Championships in 11:23. This is a runner who has broken 11:00 for 2 miles this season and will look to return to form here.
8. Emilio Palmer (7th, Rolling Meadows [Plum Grove]/Palatine Pack)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Palmer ran in his first state meet this year and finished 12th place in the IESA 4A State Championships. He has broken 11:00 at the Sectional and State and will move up to the 4K distance here. He was the 1.5 mile champion at this meet last season.
9. Phoenix Viger (8th, Plainfield [Aux Sable]/Unattached)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Viger unfortunately did not compete in the IESA State Championships due to the Plainfield School District not being part of the IESA. He has ran sub 11:00 this season when he took 2nd at the Fox Trot Invite. He won his Conference meet in a Conference record time of 11:05 and will look to be competitive in this race. He could make a name for himself in this race.
10. Bentlee Lawrenz (7th, Rock Falls/Dixon Distance)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Lawrenz made some massive strides over the past year and it showed with his 12th place finish at the IESA 3A State Championships. He has a great training group of course as part of Dixon Distance. He will be look to be top 10 in the 13-14 race.
Girls -
1. Graceleen Mabry (8th, Prospect Heights [MacArthur]/Palatine Pack)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Mabry cemented herself as the top junior high runner in the state when she had the fastest time of the day at state when she ran 11:25. That marked Mabry's second XC State Championship. She was 3rd at USATF Junior Olympics with a time of 14:02 for 4K. Expect her to dip under 14:00 this Sunday.
2. Chloe Wettstein (8th, Lake Zurich South/Palatine Pack)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Wettstein will look to secure a 1-2 finish for Palatine Pack in the 13-14 race and will challenge for the individual win like she did at IESA State. Mabry and Wettstein were locked into a heated battle between the two at the 3A State Meet. Mabry ended up pulling away in the end, but maybe Wettstein can flip that result this week.
3. Hazel Atkins (7th, Shelbyville [Moulton]/Unattached)
Race: 11-12 3000m
Atkins only lost one time this season and it was to her teammate Leah Shoaff in early September. Ever since then she has been undefeated and will look to come away with the win in the 11-12 race. She will have some good competition, but it will be hard to see her losing here.
4. Gianna Suvada (7th, Arlington Heights [St. James]/Palatine Pack)
Race: 13-14 3000m
Suvada had a breakout race at the state championship where she was 2nd place in the 1A State Race with a time of 11:46 for 2 miles. Suvada looks like she will be the 3rd runner for Palatine Pack and could secure a 1-2-3 performance for her team.
5. Audrey Dickinson (8th, Glasford [Illini Bluffs]/Unattached)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Dickinson was the 2A State runner-up just a few weeks ago. Prior to that meet she had been undefeated on the year and just got passed near the end of the race. She will be looking for redemption here and will look to place within the top 5 runners.
6. Lennox Szymonik (8th, Hampshire/Elgin Sharks)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Szymonik unfortunately does not compete in the IESA so she was unable to showcase her talents. Her only recorded race of the the season was the Detweiller at Dark race where she took 2nd to Audrey Dickinson. She will have a chance to showcase her talents again and be a top runner to watch in the race.
7. Berrit Shure (8th, Chicago [St. Benedict]/Chicago Trailblazers)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Shure came into the season as the top ranked individual in the state. She ended up taking 3rd place at the IESA State Meet, but has been progressively improving since the beginning of the season where she had a slow start. She could break out here before she heads to the USATF circuit.
8. Chloe Milton (7th, Chicago [St . Benedict]/Chicago Trailblazers)
Race: 11-12 3000m
Milton had a big season and was right next to or ahead of Shure in almost every race of the year. She was 4th at the IESA 2A State Championships which is a big improvement from her 59th place finish as a 6th grader. She will be in the 11-12 race here and can challenge Atkins for the win.
9. Adelaide Galla (8th, Arlington Heights [Thomas]/Palatine Pack)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Galla is another runner who had a slow start to her season, but ended it very strong as the IESA 4A State Champion. Her last two races have been under 12:00 and will now be moving the distance up to 4K for this race. She will be competitive in this race and will be looking to finish with the top 5 of the 13-14 race.
10. Abigail Kocher (8th, Lake Zurich South/Palatine Pack)
Race: 13-14 4000m
Kocher will look to round out the scoring for Palatine Pack in the 13-14 girls race. She ran great at the IESA 3A State Championships where she was 4th in the race. She ran sub 12:00 at the Sectional and for her to be the 5th runner on her team is pretty wild and exciting for Palatine Pack.
