As the indoor season starts to reach its peak, fast times are emerging and the competition has reached new levels. This Friday at York High School, the Stan Reddel Invite looks to be extremely exciting and hopeful for some great performances. Honoring legendary State Champion Coach from York. The 1600m is one key event to look out for, with lots of fast runners entering. Many memorable athletes are looking forward to competing, let’s look at the top 10 to keep an eye out for.
1. Alex Krieg (Jr., Palatine)
The junior out of palatine is making some strong progress this indoor season and is ready for another trip down to state, hoping to return and advance his 5th place 3200m finish at the IHSA 3A State Championships. He is coming off a strong XC season where he placed 5th at the IHSA 3A XC Championships and is looking for a challenge this Friday at York.
2. Carter Hayes (Sr., Palatine)
Hayes started off his indoor season with a 4:18 1600m to narrowly compete with his previous PR. This season looks promising for him to return down to state for the 800 and 1600, which he competed in last year. His highlight run was a 1:53 ran in the 800 at last years IHSA 3A State Championships.
3. Thomas Jochum (So., Glen Ellyn [Glenbard South])
Jochum dominated the 2A class of cross country this past season, placing 2nd at the IHSA 2A State Championships. With his undefeated record for the 2025 indoor season in the 800, 1600, and 3200, how will the competition collide with so much talent in the distance events?
4. Kyle Quaid-Bowman (Jr., Glen Ellyn [Glenbard South])
This junior is definitely a well rounded runner who has completed in such a variety of events. His athleticism helps in pole vault, which is clear through his 15th place finish at the IHSA 2A State Championships. He is also a crucial leg to the Glenbard sprint relays and hopes to qualify for state once again with his 4x200m team.
5. Nathan McLoughlin (Sr., St. Charles North)
With his recent vault of 16’0” in the pole vault at the Huntley Boys Invite, McLoughlin is looking at a current #4 IL spot. His vault of 15’9” was enough to earn him 4th place at last years IHSA 3A State Championships. With a PR early on in the indoor season, who knows how high he will go this upcoming season.
6. Bruno Massel (Sr., Elmhurst [York])
Massel made multiple state appearances in 2024, placing 19th for the open 100, as well as qualifying with his 4x200m team and finishing 9th with his 4x100m team. He opened his season with some key 60m and 55m performances that look to have set him on the right pace for some fast times ahead.
7. Danny Karnatz (Sr., Elmhurst [York])
Karnatz was also part of York’s State qualifier 4x100 and 4x200 teams, as well as the 4x400 team that placed 11 in 3A. He is not only a necessity for the sprint relays, but also has ran the majority of the sprinting events at some point during the indoor season, putting out some great times.
8. Greyson Ellensohn (Sr., St. Charles East])
Ellensohn dominated the 1600 competition during the recent North Central invite and is looking for a challenge at York this friday. The lineup looks to be exciting as he will definitely see some new competition that hopefully brings out some fast times this season.
9. Josiah Narayanan (Sr., Wheaton Warrenville South)
Narayanan was a tough competitor these past few track and cross country seasons. He placed 6 in the 3200 at the IHSA 3A Track and Field Championships as well as 16th this past fall at the IHSA 3A XC State Championships. He has had a good start to the season so far and looks to keep it moving at York on Friday.
10. Nate Cichy (Sr., Mt. Prospect [Prospect])
Cichy is currently sitting at a #10 IL time of 8.32 in the 60m hurdles after only being a couple meets into the indoor season. His hurdle success continues towards the outdoor season with hopefully another state qualifying run to compete with his 110m hurdle 15th place finish at the IHSA 3A State Championships from last season.
