The high school track and field season is finally kicking into high gear with the Cupid’s Arrow Invite at Plainfield South on Saturday, Feb. 8. This early invite should provide an early glimpse at some of this year’s best girls athletes in the IHSA field. With all four Plainfield schools rivaling each other in this invite, keep an eye on which school comes out on top. Along with them, East Aurora, Joliet Central, Joliet Catholic Academy, Yorkville, Lemont, Newark, and St. Lawrence will all appear at this meet. Grizzled veterans, underclassmen, and varsity rookies alike will compete to make their mark in this premier indoor meet.

1. Symone Holman (Jr., Joliet Catholic Academy)

  • After a strong start to the indoor season, Holman looks to continue her 2025 indoor campaign at the high school level. Holman set personal records in the triple jump, 200m, and 60m dash during club season this winter. She finished 7th at State in the Girls 2A Long Jump this past spring.

2. Courtney McDonald (Sr., Plainfield East)

  • McDonald looks to improve on an impressive junior season, gaining much improvement in her times in both the 100m and 200m after her previous sophomore campaign. But after a decent winter club season, she’ll seek an early-season revival on Saturday at Plainfield South.

3. Tessa Russo (Jr., Plainfield North)

  • Our first long-distance runner in the top ten, Russo boasted a 2:26.10 800m last year during the outdoor season along with a 5:28.93 1600m. Russo improved greatly this XC season as she ran a 17-minute 3 mile.

4. Hannah Farley (Fr., Lemont)

  • Farley is one of two freshmen in our top ten. After setting a personal record at the 4A IESA State Championship in both the 800m and 1600m, she’ll aim to become a rising star in her first high school track meet. She also competed during the cross-country season for Lemont, coming in 13th in the 3 mile at the 2A State Championships.

5. Tess Carlson (Sr., Newark)

  • Carlson is a real Swiss army knife. She competed in 4x4, 4x2, and 4x1 relays, open 200m, 300m hurdles, shot put, and pole vault. All just last outdoor season. Her best event is pole vault, where she finished 7th in the 1A State Championships her junior year.

6. Courtney Clabough (Sr., Yorkville)

  • Clabough is our first thrower in our top ten. She placed top 15 in the state in both her sophomore and junior year for discus at 3A State. But she’s even better in the shot put, sporting a 41’ 9.75” personal best and finishing 6th in 3A at state last spring.

7. Marlie Czarniewski (So., Plainfield North)

  • Our second Tiger on the list finished at 18th in the 3A State Championship in the 3200m last spring, as a freshman. She also holds a personal best of 2:23.29 in the 800m and a 5:11.91 in the 1600m, both from last year’s outdoor season. Czarniewski also finished 25th in the 3 mile at the 3A XC State Championship this fall.

8. Brisline Lankah (Fr., Plainfield East)

  • An impressive winter club season with the Aurora Flyers put Lankah on the radar. At the AAU Northern Indoor Nationals, she finished 5th in the 60m and 7th in the 200m. Lankah also posted a sub-60 400m, clocking in at 59.43. Definitely a future name to watch out for, Lankah is already turning heads and could be an elite prospect for the Bengals. She was a middle school star last season.

9. Lauren Dellangelo (Sr., Plainfield North)

  • Dellangelo had a great start to her indoor season in 2024 when she ran 58.0 on an undersized track at Plainfield North. She ended up getting her season derailed by iniury until the near end of the season. She will be looking to make a major impact here.

10. Madison King (Jr., Joliet Central)

  • King adds to the great 1600m field! Her PR is 5:19 in the 1600m, but had made significant progress over the cross-country season when she placed 29th at the State Meet in 17:34. She will be a name that could win the 1600m here.
