Middle School Showcase Lands In Barrington
The best the IESA has to offer is set to descend on Barrington Stadium April 12th, 2025. Runners, hurdlers, sprinters, jumpers, vaulters and throwers will travel from every pocket of the state to compete against the best across four classes in the Prairie Derby Showcase Invitational.
Sponsored by Illinois Running News and Dick Pond Athletics, this meet challenges the traditional structure of a middle school meet by being athlete centric and coach friendly.
Unlike most invites that run all day with mixed levels of competition, this is a showcase meet. Any athlete from any middle school can have their coach submit their times to secure a spot in this super competitive meet, and get a true race where they are pushed and tested before the showdown at the East Side Center.
In just two years since its inception, the Derby has hosted many of the state's best athletes about to arrive. Mia Sirois, Landon Harris, Nora Eitz, Kanaveer Patel, Lana McKendree, Izreal Allah, Jonah Sterk and dozens of other all state athletes have come to the small town just off I-90 in search of a time, and found it.
The highlight of the meet has been the Illinois Running News Mile, which by itself has hosted multiple state champions, including the state record holder.
As the competition rises, the times continue to drop. Early submissions for 2025 make this iteration the best ever.
This meet is meant to fill a need for elite athletes looking for a good competition, and coaches looking to find a way to get those individuals in a great race, without having to pay a lot of money or bring their entire team. Teams can request a spot for as many kids as they feel needed. The meet need to know sheet with more information on how to register is linked here.
