We kick off our end of season awards voting with 5th runner of the year. This is your opportunity to vote for who you believe was the best 5th runner in the state of Illinois this year. We used the best 5th runners from the state meet to construct this list. Here are your nominees.
Brady Travers (Downers Grove North) - Travers flipped around in the Trojans line up this year and saw himself as high as the teams 3rd runner. He kicked off his season at the FTTF Invite in Peoria running 15:31 for 33rd place and had major performances at Naperville Twilight (17th, 15:08), WSC-Silver Conference (9th, 15:14), Lyons Regional (4th, 15:52 [5K]), Hinsdale Central Sectional (9th, 14:34 [2.9]), and State (49th, 14:52). He was 85th at NXR Midwest in 15:54.
Emmett Bradford (York) - Bradford actually started his year as the Dukes top runner, but ended up merging more into their pack as the season progressed. Some of his best performances of the season were at the Joliet Steelman (1st, 15:35), Richard Spring (7th, 14:56), WSC-Silver Conference (10th, 15:15), IHSA State (112th, 15:17). He was 175th at NXR Midwest in 16:21.
Walter Garrett (New Trier) - Another runner who jumped around the lineup through the season had a great season overall. His top performances were at Red Devil Invite (14th, 14:55 [2.9]), Palatine Meet Of Champions (2nd, 15:19), CSL Conference (4th, 15:05), Glenbrook South Regional (4th, 15:30), Hoffman Estates Sectional (23rd, 15:12), and IHSA State (106th, 15:15). He was 105th at NXR Midwest in 16:02.
Gavin Hall (Plainfield North) - Hall had a great late season resurgence to make his way back into the Top 7 at Regionals. He had great performances at EIU Showdown (8th, 16:02), Lockport Regional (9th, 15:37), Normal Community Sectional (28th, 15:41), and IHSA State (117th, 15:19).
Preston Ellis (Payton) - Ellis had a massive day at the State meet with a PR of 15:16. He really stepped up big in the race that the Grizzles needed him most in. Some of his other best performances besides from state were at Elmwood Park Regional (7th, 15:53) and Hinsdale South Sectional (30th, 15:37 [2.9]). He was 228th at NXR Midwest in 16:48.
