2026 XC Pre-Season Previews: 2A Girls Individual Rankings

Class 2A enters the 2026 cross country season with an outstanding mix of proven veterans and emerging talent, setting the stage for what should be an exciting race throughout the fall. Returning All-State finishers, state qualifiers, and athletes coming off breakthrough track seasons headline a deep field that is capable of producing memorable performances. Our preseason rankings highlight the top 25 individuals entering the 2026 season based solely on performances achieved prior to July 1st, 2026, meaning any races or results after that date were not considered in the evaluation. While these rankings recognize what each athlete has accomplished to this point, the cross country season always brings new storylines, and every runner will have the opportunity to rewrite the rankings over the coming months.

  1. Emaline Foster (Jr., Crystal Lake [Prairie Ridge])

800m: 2:24.41

1600m: 5:20.00

3 Mile: 16:27.00

Emaline Foster enters her junior season as the favorite for the IHSA Class 2A state title after establishing herself as one of the state's premier cross country runners over the past two seasons. The Prairie Ridge standout endured one of the most heartbreaking moments of last year's championship season when she appeared on her way to winning the Class 2A state title before collapsing roughly 100 meters from the finish line. Despite the devastating setback, Foster still managed to finish second, a testament to both the lead she had built and the incredible season she put together. Her personal best of 16:27.00 for three miles remains the fastest returning mark in Class 2A and reflects the talent that has made her the runner to beat entering this fall. Unfortunately, Foster was unable to build on that momentum during the track season, as an injury forced her to miss the majority of the spring. She was limited to season bests of 2:24.41 in the 800 meters and 5:20.00 in the 1600 meters, leaving plenty of unanswered questions regarding her fitness entering the fall. If she returns healthy, however, there is little doubt about her ceiling. Foster has already proven she can challenge for a state championship, and after coming so close a year ago, she enters the season with both the experience and motivation to finish the job at Detweiller.

  1. Ali Londrigan (Sr., Chatham [Glenwood])

1600m: 4:51.42

3200m: 10:47.99

3 Mile: 17:00.10

Ali Londrigan enters her senior season as one of the leading contenders for the IHSA Class 2A state championship after putting together one of the most complete distance resumes in the classification. The Glenwood standout earned All State honors with a seventh place finish at the IHSA Class 2A State Cross Country Meet. A proven championship performer, Londrigan has consistently delivered her best performances on the biggest stages and enters her final high school season with both the experience and confidence to compete for a state title. She backed up her outstanding cross country campaign with an exceptional track season, lowering her personal bests to 4:51.42 in the 1600 meters and 10:47.99 in the 3200 meters. Londrigan finished ninth in both events at the IHSA Class 3A State Meet, one of the deepest distance competitions in the country, after sweeping the 1600 meter and 3200 meter titles at Illinois Top Times. Her combination of championship experience, elite track credentials, and proven consistency makes her one of the favorites to be at the front of the field throughout the Class 2A season and a legitimate threat to capture the state championship this fall.

  1. Erin Hinsdale (Sr., Wheaton [St. Francis])

800m: 2:17.50

3 Mile: 17:28.10

Erin Hinsdale enters her senior season as one of the most accomplished returning runners in Class 2A and a strong contender to finish near the front at the state meet once again. The St. Francis standout has established herself as one of the classification's most consistent championship performers, finishing 11th at the IHSA Class 2A State Cross Country Meet last fall after placing fourth at the state meet in 2024. Her personal best of 17:28.10 for three miles and her history of performing well at Detweiller make her one of the safest bets among the state's top returners. Hinsdale carried that consistency into the track season, where she posted personal bests of 2:17.50 in the 800 meters, 4:55.12 in the 1600 meters, and 11:17.27 in the 3200 meters. She placed fourth in the 1600 meters at the IHSA Class 2A State Meet and helped lead St. Francis to the state championship in the 4x800 meter relay, further adding to an already impressive resume. With multiple years of championship experience, proven success in both cross country and track, and the motivation to return to the All State podium, Hinsdale enters her final season as one of the top contenders in Class 2A.

  1. Taara Sajdeh (Sr., Chicago University)

3200m: 10:45.98

3 Mile: 17:57.30

Taara Sajdeh enters her senior season as one of the biggest breakout stars in Class 2A after a tremendous leap forward during the track season. The University High standout finished 30th at the IHSA Class 2A State Cross Country Meet last fall, but the athlete she became over the course of the spring has elevated her into the conversation as one of the classification's top contenders. Her rapid improvement has significantly raised her ceiling entering her final cross country campaign. Sajdeh enjoyed a spectacular track season, lowering her personal bests to 5:03.74 in the 1600 meters and 10:45.98 in the 3200 meters. She placed sixth in the 1600 meters and fourth in the 3200 meters at the IHSA Class 2A State Meet before capping her season with an outstanding ninth place finish in the two mile at Nike Outdoor Nationals. She qualified for the IHSA Class 3A State Meet, placing 10th in the 800 meters and 26th in the 1600 meters while also proving herself against elite competition indoors with a fourth place finish in the 1600 meters and a fifth place finish in the 4x800 meter relay at Illinois Top Times. Her combination of speed, continued improvement, and championship experience makes her one of the leading contenders to challenge for another All State finish and potentially even higher honors in Class 2A this fall.

Her steady progression over the past year has transformed her into one of the strongest all around distance runners in Class 2A, and she enters her senior season as a legitimate threat to improve on last year's All State finish.

With another year of experience and development under her belt, Mora enters this fall with the potential to take another significant step forward. She continued her success during the track season, lowering her personal bests to 2:14.73 in the 800 meters and 4:59.89 in the 1600 meters. Mora earned All State honors once again with a seventh place finish in the 1600 meters at the IHSA Class 2A State Meet while also qualifying in the 800 meters and the 4x400 meter relay, demonstrating her versatility across multiple events. Already an All State performer in both seasons as just a sophomore, Mora enters her junior campaign as one of the leading contenders to climb even higher in the Class 2A rankings.

3200m: 10:56.95

3 Mile: 18:33.00

Viviana Tryonopoulos enters her senior season as one of the most intriguing runners in Class 2A after a transformative track campaign elevated her into the upper tier of the classification. The Kennedy standout finished 63rd at the IHSA Class 2A State Cross Country Meet last fall, but her results during the spring suggest she has developed into a much different athlete over the past several months. Few runners in Class 2A made a bigger jump from the cross country season to the track season than Tryonopoulos. She lowered her personal bests to 5:13.09 in the 1600 meters and 10:56.95 in the 3200 meters before earning a 13th place finish in the 3200 meters at the IHSA State Meet. Those performances established her as one of the fastest improving distance runners in the classification and demonstrated that she is capable of competing with many of the state's best. If Tryonopoulos can carry the confidence and fitness from her breakthrough spring into the fall, she has the potential to make one of the biggest climbs in the Class 2A rankings and contend for All State honors during her senior season.

Unlike many of the other athletes in these rankings, Chaddock chose to play soccer during the spring instead of competing in track and field. While she does not have any new track marks to evaluate, her cross country resume alone is enough to make her a runner to watch this fall. With another year of maturity, experience, and fitness, Chaddock has the potential to take another significant step forward and improve upon her All State finish as she continues to develop into one of Class 2A's top young talents.
