2026 Pre-Season Track & Field Previews: Boys 800m

The Illinois high school track season has showcased outstanding depth in the middle distances, and the Top 10 ranked boys in the 800 meters across Classes 1A through 3A represent the premier talent in the state. Requiring a rare blend of speed, endurance, and race intelligence, the 800 m has produced thrilling battles and fast times throughout the season. From aggressive front-runners to patient kickers, each athlete on this list has earned his ranking through consistency, competitiveness, and performances on the biggest stages. Together, they reflect the strength and excitement of boys middle-distance running across Illinois high school track and field.


These rankings are based on multiple factors including PRs, consistency, state placement, and national placement. Only data from the 2025 Track & Field season are used in these rankings. No performances from cross country or 2026 has been included.
